The Italian Gran Turismo Championship, in its 21st edition, continues to set records. This weekend, at the Circuit of Monza, will feature the second round of the Sprint series. After the 43 participating teams at the season opener in Misano, the number of registered entries increased by one, matching the all-time record for event participation set last year in Imola.

Similar to the event in Romagna, Monza will also host four races, two for each class: GT3 and GT Cup. The duration of the latter races will be reduced by two minutes (48 minutes + 1 lap) to avoid refueling for the single-brand configuration cars during the race.

Both GT3 and GT Cup races will be broadcast live on Acisport TV (SKY 228) and the championship's social media channels. Additionally, the GT3 races will have live coverage on Raisport (Channel 58 FreeView).

GT3: Absent from the limelight after the first two races of the season is the 16-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli, the current leader of the overall standings with 32 points. Despite his limited participation in Misano, all eyes will be on four teams, separated by just two points, chasing the Bolognese driver. Tied at 24 points are the winners of Race 2 in Romagna, White-D'Auria (Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 - AF Corse), closely followed by the two VSR teams, Cazzaniga-Petrov and Liberati-Michelotto (Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2), with a one-point difference. Two points behind them are the representatives of BMW Italia-Ceccato Racing Team, Klingmann-Spengler (BMW M4 GT3).

The AF Corse lineup will be completed by Castro-Nurmi, co-leaders in the GT3 PRO-AM category, and newcomers Marco Pulcini-Eddy Cheever, who have previously participated in editions of the Italian GT Championship. Moulin-Llarena will complement the VSR team led by Vincenzo Sospiri.

The second BMW M4 from BMW Italia-Ceccato Racing Team will be driven by De Luca-Tamburini, who will compete against the Antonelli Motorsport duo piloting the Mercedes AMG GT3, Kelstrup-Sandrucci, co-leaders in the GT3 PRO-AM class. They will also face the duo formed by the 2021 GT3 Sprint and Endurance champion, Lorenzo Ferrari, and the 21-year-old Finnish driver William Alatalo.

Nova Race will field two Honda NSX GT3 cars at Monza, driven by Gnos-Greco and Magnoni-Bodellini. They will contend with Fascicolo-Ciglia, leaders of the GT3 AM category, driving the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo for Imperiale Racing, which is also ready to field a second team composed of Denes-Gvazava.

Completing the list of GT3 class participants are the defending champions of the GT Cup Sprint, Coluccio-Mazzola, who have already shown their skills in the first two races in Misano with the Best Lap Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020.

GT Cup: Just like in Misano, the grid in the single-make category is also rich in Monza. With the absence of Belgian driver Stadsbader, who won both races in Romagna, new protagonists emerge in the GT Cup PRO-AM class. Leading the standings by 8 points are Di Giusto-Pera (Porsche 992 GT3 Cup - Ombra Racing), followed closely by Giacomo and Matteo Pollini (Lamborghini Huracan ST - Giacomo Race) and Leonardo Colavita paired with Michele Rugolo, with a 12-point gap. Rugolo will be replaced by Giorgio Maggi driving the Double TT Racing's 488 Challenge Evo in Monza. The other Ferraris on the track will be driven by Demarchi-Patrinicola (Best Lap), coming off their victory in the Endurance race at Pergusa, and a new team composed of the multi-champion Stefano Gai paired with Fabrizio Fontana (Formula Racing). Segù-Vebster (Lamborghini Huracan ST - DL Racing) and Biolghini-Postiglione (Porsche 992 GT3 Cup - Racevent) will also be competing.

The battle is fierce in the GT Cup AM class, with Ignazio Zanon (Lamborghini Huracan ST - VSR) leading the provisional standings with 32 points after securing a first and third place in Misano. He is followed closely by Pastorelli-Pezzucchi (Porsche 992 GT3 Cup - Krypton Motorsport) and Nicoli-Scarpetta (Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo - Best Lap) tied at 20 points. Bontempelli-Menichini (Ferrari 488 Challenge - SR&R) and Fabi-Riva (Lamborghini Huracan ST - DL Racing) are also in pursuit with 18 and 15 points, respectively. Diego Locanto's team will field a second Lamborghini for Pierluigi Alessandri, and Ravetto and Ruberti's team has prepared an additional 488 Challenge for Carboni-Romani.

Completing the Ferrari lineup are Marzialetti-D'Aniello (Best Lap) and Del Col-Galvanin (Easy Race). Porsche 991 GT3 Cup cars will also be prominent, with four vehicles from Ebimotors driven by Venerosi-Baccani, Papi-Prandi, Liana-Valori, and debutant Christian Gros. Abbati-Grisi (SP Racing) and Croccolino-Luvisi (GDL Racing) will also pilot Porsches, while Zanardini-Ghezzi will tackle the two races in Brianza with Autorlando's 992 GT3 Cup.

Noteworthy participation includes other Lamborghini Huracan ST cars driven by Ettore Carminati (CRM Motorsport), Oliva-D'Auria, and Massimiliano Pezzuto-Nicolò Pezzuto (HC Racing Division). Additionally, Mercedes AMG GT-Cs representing Nova Race will be driven by Marchetti-Zanotti and Ferri-Bencivenni.
