Mirko Bortolotti : "At Spa, you never know what can happen"
Fifth in the Superpole of the 24 Hours of Spa, Mirko Bortolotti will try to do better than the 8th place of a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 in the Belgian classic. For this, the official Lamborghini Squadra Corse driver is counting on the Emil Frey Racing team that he forms with Albert Costa and Jack Aitken. Certainly a trio to follow for the victory. Shortly before the start of the Superpole, the future Lamborghini LMDh driver spoke to Endurance-Info.
How is your start to the meeting going?
"The tests have been in the right direction with a competitiveness that has risen crescendo over the tests. We still have to work to be among the leading GT3s. This year, we must also take into account the new adjustments to the circuit which I think are going in the right direction. It will be different from the past years because here the mistake will be paid for. It is therefore possible to see more neutralisations."
What was the condition of the track?
"Compared to the past, the track is very dirty, which makes overtaking more difficult because you mustn't leave the track."
Is this your year at Spa?
"(He smiles). I have always been fast here but I have never won. At Spa, you never know what can happen. You clearly have to have a good balance to win."
After GT3, we will see you in Hypercar with Lamborghini. Will you be in GT3 again in 2023?
"Yes, even though at this point I don't know my 2023 GT programme yet. The Evo 2 version of the GT3 is coming next season. For me the plan is clearly to be in GT3 on a programme that could be close to this year's. I'm also having a lot of fun in the DTM on a very competitive series."
You made your LMP2 debut at Le Mans for WRT with some very good times to show for it. What do you take away from your Le Mans debut?
"I really enjoyed the experience which was incredible. I had heard about this race but this time I was able to experience it from the inside. Driving in the LMP2 class for WRT, a team I already knew, is still a great experience for me and I was able to rediscover some of the sensations I had when I was in a single seater. You can feel the aerodynamics of the prototype. For me, the objective was not to make any mistakes and to gain confidence. That's exactly what happened with a third class time for me as a rookie."
Could we see you back in LMP2 in 2023?
"The hypothesis is not excluded. We'll also have to see with the development of the Hypercar prototype which will take a lot of time."
