The 905 Peugeot at Le Mans : 30 years ago already !

Thirty years ago, the World Endurance Championship alternated between Sprint and Endurance. Three decades later, we are only talking about endurance races that are similar to real long sprints. While we will have to wait another year before seeing the Peugeot 9X8 in action in the Sarthe, the 905 set out to win the 1992 Le Mans 24 Hours. Already 30 years old !
For the race of the year, Peugeot Talbot Sport (yes, at that time Talbot still existed), had to modify its 905 to go for the race of the year. Five points were worked on by the French manufacturer :
- Aerodynamics: suppression of the front splitter and reduced deflection of the rear wing to reduce downforce.
- Engine: maximum speed lowered by 2,000 rpm (12,800 rpm maximum) for better reliability.
- Gearbox: the gearbox was reinforced to resist the hardness of the event.
