Since the election of the new FIA president, the FIA Commission Women in Motorsport has also a new president. Her name: Deborah Mayer.

Once Michèle Mouton had left the FIA Women In Motorsport Commission, it was necessary to find someone who already had an idea of the current dossiers and the areas of development of a Commission that is constantly growing. Deborah Mayer, who was already very involved with Iron Dames, was quickly chosen. Freshly elected, Deborah Mayer was present at Spa-Francorchamps. An opportunity for Endurance-Info to talk to her.

Taking over from Michèle Mouton is a great reward ?

"It is an honour for me to succeed Michèle who spent 12 years running the Commission. It is an honour but also a real challenge to be able to develop the current project."

Your arrival in motorsport is quite recent...

"I come from an investment and private banking background. In 2017, we have launched Iron Lynx with Claudio Schiavoni, Sergio Pianezzola and the Piccini brothers. A year later, the Iron Dames programme was born. This project has always been close to my heart. In my professional life, women are rare in a position like mine. It's a bit the same in motorsport, hence the desire to push for the promotion of women in motorsport, not only drivers, but also other positions like engineering, marketing, hospitality, sports management or mechanics."

The aim is to shine around the world ?

"There are talented women in different countries around the world, so we need to bring in new projects and new experiences."

What are the axes to be developed ?

"First of all, to create new vocations. As I said, it's not just about drivers. In motor sport, there are so many possibilities. With modern communication, it is possible to identify new talent, give access to the motorsport industry, direct girls towards specialities. The aim is clearly to help with all this."

All in the spirit of gender diversity ?

"The beauty of motorsport is to have men and women racing in the same competition. In our sport, it is not a question of gender. The Commission remains open to a maximum of initiatives."
